Operations Assistant

About the role:


Work as a multi-skilled member of the Operating Theatre Team to provide non-clinical ancillary support to the theatre staff to complement the delivery of safe, effective, quality patient care.

The position is also required to deliver services to the theatre campus and the general hospital as directed by facility management.


  • Liaise with relevant staff to confirm equipment requirements in line with the theatre list, and assemble equipment checking to ensure that it is complete, clean, and correctly functioning
  • Identify equipment for maintenance and refer to relevant staff
  • Maintain supplies as required in consultation with relevant staff
  • Ensure appropriate cleaning and removal of soiled linen and waste is undertaken in preparation between procedures and at the completion of the theatre list, including in theatre and ancillary rooms
  • Provide assistance during the positioning and prepping stage of the patient and interoperatively as required
  • Transport blood, pathology specimens, and other items necessary using standard precautions

  • Cessnock Hospital is a 64bed facility that provides emergency, surgical and general medical care to the area's growing population. They have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and proactive Operations Assistant to join their team, within the Theatre Department setting.
  • This is an opportunity to work for the largest local health district in NSW which services a population of more than 900,000 across the Hunter, New England and Lower Mid North Coast areas.

  • You will have excellent interpersonal skills for facilitating positive, effective working relationships and possess the ability to adapt to different communication styles as well as able to communicate sensitively with patients and their families/carers

Requirements and Additional information:

  • Availability and willingness to work on a 7 day rotating roster, as well as capacity to work at short notice due to unforeseen vacancies when required, including on call periods.
  • An eligibility list will be created for future temporary full or part time vacancies.
