The Senior Solicitor role will be part of the multidisciplinary Regional, Rural, and Remote (RRR) Team, offering legal and social support services to women in specific communities. WLSQ aims to extend its presence in regional, rural, and remote areas of Queensland to address the unique challenges faced by women in these areas, the limited services available, and the distances they need to travel to access support against domestic and family violence.

The RRR Outreach Program, as a pilot initiative, will involve a solicitor, social worker, financial counselor, and community legal education officer working together to provide comprehensive services addressing legal, financial, welfare, and safety needs for women affected by domestic and family violence in RRR regions.

The RRR team will rotate to high-need areas across Queensland to conduct legal and social support clinics. Community education workshops will also be organized for service providers to enhance their understanding of domestic violence and the available support services for women.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Delivering WLSQ legal services at outreach clinics in RRR priority communities under the supervision of the Legal Practice Director.
  • Providing legal advice on family law, domestic violence, and child safety matters, including at outreach clinics in RRR priority areas.
  • Offering services to women through a trauma-informed practice framework.
  • Complying with WLSQ policy and practices following the guidelines of the National Association of Community Legal Centers Australia Risk Management Guide.
  • Providing duty lawyer services for domestic violence cases in designated Magistrates Courts as needed.

In collaboration with the RRR team, the Senior Solicitor will support vulnerable women facing domestic violence in RRR communities by ensuring comprehensive services that address both legal and social needs. This includes liaising with key agencies, providing risk assessments, and maintaining a professional and supportive team environment consistent with WLSQ values and feminist principles.

Travel to RRR outreach locations will be essential for at least one week per month, along with potential travel between different offices. Occasional work outside regular hours may be required.

Other responsibilities involve:

  • Developing and delivering legal education for employees, volunteers, and stakeholders, particularly in RRR priority communities.
  • Supporting the Practice Director in day-to-day activities, such as coordinating workflow, ensuring quality of work, and participating in recruitment and training processes.
