The Department

The Monash Alfred Psychiatry research centre (MAPrc) is one of the largest and most impactful clinical research centres in Australia and is based at 607 St Kilda Road, Melbourne. The centre has been a constant source of output in the areas of cutting-edge clinical research, innovation in clinical practice, and a strong voice of advocacy and understanding for people living with mental illness. For researchers aspiring to innovate treatments that have a meaningful impact on the community, MAPrc is the ideal environment. The TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) Research Unit focuses on translating cutting-edge neuroscience to clinical trials. The Unit aims to launch impactful research which includes 1) clinical trials to improve the therapeutic efficacy of non-invasive therapeutic brain stimulation using pharmacological facilitation of synaptic neuroplasticity and signal transmission and 2) Developing transdiagnostic treatment applications for therapeutic brain stimulation modalities by using neuroimaging biomarkers and causal networks to inform novel, individualised neurostimulation therapies.

The Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a Registered Nurse to join the TMS Clinical Research Unit at MAPrc.

The Research Nurse will assist in the delivery of TMS, as well as contribute to the running of the associated clinical trials and administrative tasks. Training will be provided, if required, to enable the successful candidate to become familiar with the provision of TMS therapy. They will also be responsible for protecting the health, safety, and welfare of patients to ensure that optimal clinical care is provided for all people under their care. The successful candidate will be tasked with the conduct of clinical measures, data collection and data entry/curation.

The Clinical Research Nurse will ensure that the integrity and quality of treatment protocols are maintained and conducted in accordance with federal, state and local regulations, HREC/RGO approvals, and Alfred Health policies and procedures, as well as ICH Good Clinical Practice (GCP) requirements.

Qualification & Experience Required

Essential

Registered Nurse with the Australia Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Clinical experience in mental health nursing. Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions in relation to conducting assessments and determining a person's suitability for ongoing treatment and/or participation in a clinical trial. Strong and proven communication, interpersonal organisational and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to participate positively in a team environment as well as work on own initiative without close supervision Ability to liaise and work with internal and external stakeholders including GPs, allied health, and other Alfred staff. Good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook

Desirable

Experience in delivering TMS services. Clinical Trials experience and sound knowledge of ICH-GCP guidelines Experience in administering clinical rating scales, in particular for depression.
