The
Executive Manager Commercial Underwriting SA role delivers expert underwriting with market leading business and risk solutions for commercial products in the Intermediated marketplace, to drive profitable growth and increase market share.

The role develops and delivers a cohesive state business plan and service/value proposition to our intermediaries, through the execution of the national product, portfolio and underwriting strategies.


This crucial role leads an aligned state based Underwriting function responsible for the expert execution of the individual product and portfolio strategies, to ensure a seamless experience for our intermediaries and mutual clients.

The second key component of this role is driving profitable growth nationally from a product lens.

The role will be responsible for working with National placement teams and Practice leaders and key brokers to ensure our strong product integrity continues to grow.


Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Deliver expert underwriting solutions and service and a seamless experience for intermediaries in each local market
  • Lead state based Commercial Underwriting teams to drive the execution of the C&I product and portfolio strategies for each of the Commercial products in the Intermediated marketplace to deliver targeted GWP and ITR objectives
  • Build and maintain strong strategic and collaborative national partnerships with key brokers, authorised representatives and cluster groups
  • Work with Underwriting to set the context for the commercial underwriting teams to execute the C&I product and portfolio strategy and deliver customer and shareholder value
  • Collaborate with Commercial Intermediaries to build and maintain strong strategic and collaborative partnerships with key brokers, authorised representatives and cluster groups nationally.

Skills & Experience:

  • At least 15 years commercial experience in Insurance
  • Demonstrated knowledge of underwriting practices and policies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Australian Intermediated Insurance market
  • Expert understanding of the insurance industry, including insurance products, market environment and customer segments
  • Strength in leadership and the ability to harness information and to motivate and inspire teams
  • Strong ability to contribute to and understand complex and strategic perspectives and translate to tactical solutions.
