Christ Church St Ives is seeking a creative and self-motivated SRE Teacher who has an infectious love for Jesus and is enthusiastic about connecting young people with and establishing them in their faith.


Christ Church St Ives is a growing Anglican Church that exists to build wholehearted disciples of Jesus who will transform the world with the Gospel of Jesus.

The church has a long-standing connection with the local high school and its community, providing high quality Christian SRE lessons and seminars for students.


1. Position Purpose
The role of the Christian SRE Teacher (St Ives High School) is to:

  • Ensure young people enrolled in SRE are educated in accordance with the approved syllabus;
  • Support students in the pursuit of their faith through JOLT (lunch time group) and other spiritual activities; and
  • Support the school with provision of community chaplaincy services when requested.

2. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare SRE lessons for Year 710 students using the approved syllabus
  • Provide engaging SRE classes for Year 710
  • Run a termly SRE Seminar Day that allows for students enrolled in SRE to go deeper in their understanding of the Christian faith
  • Assist in the administration, programming and running of JOLT (Jesus over lunch time)
  • Build connections between church and students who are interested in and initiate taking their faith further
  • Build relationships with the executive and teaching staff at the school to facilitate provision of chaplaincy services if requested
  • Meet regularly with the Youth and Families Minister for encouragement and training.

3. Qualifications, experience, skills & capabilities

  • Clear commitment to Jesus and growing as a disciple
  • Demonstrated commitment to creatively teaching SRE and connecting young people with their faith
  • Experience leading, empowering and developing young people
  • Energy to be a motivated selfstarter with strong administrative skills and the ability to work independently
  • Willingness to take risks and learn from both mistakes and success
  • Theological diploma (or current enrolment)
  • Ability to be approved as a worker in a Department of Education School
  • Experience teaching SRE
  • Experience working in a school environment
  • Marked by a humble, teachable attitude
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • An entrepreneurial selfstarter, able to work both independently and as a collaborative member of a diverse staff team
  • Skilled in teaching, leadership and communication
  • Committed to making SRE enjoyable
