About the IT Security Advisor Role
Playing a crucial role in protecting Australia from organized crime, IT Security Advisors are essential to the ACIC's mission. They ensure robust and secure ICT systems and practices, delivering critical Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) services for on-premise and cloud-based infrastructures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop Security Risk Assessments (SRA) to identify and evaluate risks for systems with action plans.
  • Provide IT Security advice for secure system development and general staff guidance.
  • Manage IT security incidents, determine severity and risk levels, assess responses, and aid in long-term prevention strategies.
  • Assist IT projects with fulfilling security obligations, including risk assessments and compliance activities.

  • Outstanding analytical skills to gather and analyze data, problem-solve, and make informed decisions.
  • Strong proficiency in technical writing with keen attention to detail.
  • Resilience to persist and stay positive when faced with challenges.
  • Collaborative mindset, seeking input from the IT security team and actively engaging with other teams, agencies, and vendors.
  • Experience with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and Information Security Manual (ISM).
  • Familiarity with non-IT industry frameworks to develop risk assessments, ensure compliance, and create remediation plans.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Current or potential attainment of academic or Industry certifications in cyber security and risk management, such as CompTIA CySA+, CISSP, CISA, ISO 27001 Lead Auditor, or PCI QSA.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Citizenship: Applicants must be Australian citizens to be considered for a role at ACIC.
  • Security Clearance: Successful candidates will need to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.
  • Pre-Employment Screening: All candidates must pass an Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) before employment at ACIC.
