Position Purpose Statement


As a result of parental leave, we have a contract opportunity until September 2023 for a Head of Stations to provide strategic management and direction to the operations, to ensure outstanding performance across customer service delivery, passenger safety, revenue protection and resource management.

Managing a large workforce.

This role will be key in ensuring on-time delivery and that an excellent, continual interface with the customer is maintained.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to innovate and strive for organisational improvements that ensure quality services, experiences, and outcomes for internal and external customers.

About the Role

As the Head of Stations, you will:

  • Have primary responsibility for developing and implementing customer service programs including safe travel awareness and host station implementation
  • Achieve and maintain Rail Safety accreditation requirements and ensure compliance with the Franchise Agreement with Government and the Operations Agreement with MTM
  • Ensure that the necessary safe working practices are in place to reduce risk exposure to staff, customers, and the general public
  • Lead and influence enterprise agreement negotiations
  • Initiate and drive cultural change across the suburban station network that will deliver enhanced customer service, and customer loyalty and ultimately improve business profitability
  • Oversee the management of a costeffective, highly motivated and customerfocused workforce committed to enhancing bottomline profitability through improved services, ontime delivery, and relationships with customers at all levels

Qualification, Skills, and Experience

  • To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Significant management of a large, geographically diverse workforce in a customer service environment (essential)
  • Significant, demonstrated Industrial Relations knowledge and experience (essential)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and staff (verbal and written)
  • Demonstrable experience in engaging and influencing internal and external stakeholders
  • Significant leadership skills and experience in motivating, mentoring, and developing others
  • Tertiary qualifications in Business Management, Economics, Commerce, or equivalent discipline (Highly desirable)
  • A commercial focus to effectively manage department budgets and financial plans
