Our client is a highly respected brand within the ecotourism and boutique accommodation industry, known for delivering exceptional experiences. They are seeking a highly skilled Financial Controller to join their dynamic team due to a strategic organizational change.

Primary Purpose of the Role:

As the Financial Controller, you will manage all aspects of the finance function to proactively plan, monitor, educate, and report on financial performance, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Team Management: Mentor and lead the finance team, set individual and team goals, and conduct performance reviews to ensure high performance and engagement.
  • Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation of monthly management reports, financial statements, and balance sheet reconciliations, aiming for a 7-day month-end turnaround.
  • Cashflow Management: Assess cashflow and manage payments to ensure consistent liquidity and provide weekly cashflow statements to the Board.
  • Compliance & Regulatory: Handle all compliance matters including Income Tax, FBT, GST, PAYG-W, Workers Compensation, and Payroll Tax, ensuring adherence to financial standards and legislation.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Maintain effective budgeting and forecasting systems, oversee project budgets, and implement performance indicators to measure progress against strategic objectives.
  • Governance & Risk Management: Develop and implement governance and risk policies, manage the annual audit process, and ensure financial risks are adequately insured.
  • System Improvement: Identify and manage systems to support decision-making, performance monitoring, and risk control.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Graduate qualifications in Accounting or Business with CPA/CA certification.
  • Strong technical background in implementing accounting standards and preparing financial statements.
  • Experience in creating board report packs with key financial and non-financial data.
  • Understanding of Tax Effect Accounting and Income Tax legislation.
  • Proven team leadership skills and hands-on management experience within a finance/accounts team.
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience in the ecotourism industry is a plus.
