Job Title: Research Scientist in Animal Production Sciences



  • This position is a great opportunity to join the Animal Production Sciences branch of Agriculture Victoria Research (AVR) and contribute to activities within the pasture and animal nutrition programs.
  • We aim to explore innovative ways to design sustainable multispecies swards that reduce nitrogen fertiliser dependency while remaining productive, nutritious, water and nutrient efficient, and resilient to climate challenges.
  • As a Research Scientist, you will work on various dairy research projects, collaborate with a team, and showcase expertise in pasture agronomy or ruminant animal nutrition.
  • Key responsibilities include designing and implementing research, reporting internally and externally, preparing scientific publications, and supporting other related dairy and red meat R&I activities.


Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications:
  • Essential: Demonstrated knowledge of grazing-based ruminant production systems.
  • Essential: Proven research experience, especially in pasture and/or ruminant experimentation.
  • Essential: Ability to work effectively in research project teams, showing initiative and minimal supervision.
  • Essential: Strong communication skills to collaborate with peers and stakeholders and present research findings.
  • Essential: Understanding of Work Health and Safety and Animal Ethics standards in research.
  • Desirable: Post-graduate qualification in agronomy, grazing ecology, or ruminant nutrition.
