What you'll be doing:


The Safe Wayz Program also coordinates primary prevention initiatives to educate children, families, schools, carers, community and professionals about problematic & harmful sexual behaviours (PHSB) including guidance on developmentally appropriate sexual behaviours.

This will involve building capacities to identify and understand PHSB, collaboration with agency partners, provision of consultation and training, whilst also advocating for system and practice changes.


Safe Wayz Clinicians will also foster cultural consultation to support non-Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander clinicians working with Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander children and families.


Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District seeks to provide a culturally safe environment for people from diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander families and communities.

This role will be part of a local Safe Wayz Program team which is integrated into the Districts Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) Service.

The program team will include one Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role, and one non identified position.

The team will be supported through a state-wide clinical network, who will provide clinical and cultural connections, and support in undertaking this work.

As an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Safe Wayz Clinician you will have access to individual cultural supervision.


This position is open to full time or part time female applicants with the ability to also participate in the provision of a 24/7 crisis response service.

It is a multi-level/grade position open to applicants with varying skills levels.

This role will have a professional development plan in place that will provide the opportunity for work-based development which allows for progression through the Award levels in accordance with the position holder's skill acquisition.

A table with the various expectations and accountabilities for each level is available upon request.

It is a temporary role based upon recurrent funding for review in June 2026. It can be either full time or part time.

Selection criteria to be addressed:

  • Accepted qualifications include:
  • Bachelor of Social Work which provides eligibility for membership to Australian Association of Social Workers or
  • Degree in Psychology with full registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia,
  • Bachelor degree in counselling from a recognised and accepted education provider, as deemed appropriate by the employer.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide culturally appropriate, clinically advanced specialist counselling services to individuals, and families in the context of child sexual assault, trauma, violence and abuse,
