Australia's National Science Agency in an ongoing roleAre you a motivated marine/fisheries ecologist with seagoing experience? We are currently seeking a skilled Benthic and Fisheries Ecologist to join our talented multidisciplinary team in an exciting, ongoing role


CSIRO's Ocean and Coastal Research makes a strong international contribution to scientific research that effectively uses image-derived data to solve important ecological and environmental challenges in the marine environment.

Due to rapid advancements in technology, the growing interest in collecting biodiversity & ecological data using non-extractive methods, and the amenability of imagery to efficient processing using machine learning (ML) techniques, this research domain is a growing field within our research group.

Your duties will include:

  • Working closely with projects leaders in Environment BU to deliver high quality, timely, and collaborative research projects.
  • Actively participating on scientific voyages aboard research and commercial fishing vessels, including leading components of seagoing activities when required.
  • Undertaking spatial and temporal analysis of data and production of data outputs.
  • Working with a broad portfolio of projects focused on biodiversity and imagery analysis (including annotation), and leading components of projects.
  • Contributing to communicating research or technological results in internal and external forums and, where applicable, leading & contributing to peerreviewed scientific papers.

Salary:
AU$89K - AU$101K pa + up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • Minimum qualification of a Bachelor's degree, or equivalent relevant work experience, in fisheries science, environmental science, marine biology, marine ecology or related field.
  • Demonstrated seagoing experience including participation in largescale field programs.
  • Knowledge of deepsea benthic biodiversity and fisheries ecosystems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
