    Job description:
  • The Department of Health is seeking interest from suitably qualified and experienced Doctors for a Specialist position in Cardiothoracic Surgery.

The Royal Hobart Hospital is the State's tertiary referral centre and is also the primary teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania School of Medicine.

All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce and the Tasmanian community.


Salary:


A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.


Classification:

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 to Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 in accordance with the _Salaried Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019_

Period of Employment:

Permanent full-time day work (with on-call) working up to 76 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible.

Duties:

-
Patient Care:

  • Medical care of patients.
  • Undertake procedures as required in the area of practice.
  • Participate in after hours on call roster.
-
Teaching:

  • Undertake undergraduate clinical teaching.
  • Provide supervision and training of post graduate trainees.
  • Research:
  • Maintain involvement in research activities.
-
Administrative and Quality Improvement:

  • Provide administrative and quality improvement functions for units as required
  • Work closely with corresponding nursing staff and support staff in the area of practice.

Essential Requirements:

  • Be registered or be eligible for registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as Specialist Cardiothoracic Surgeon
  • Hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons with a recognised speciality field of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery
  • Be available for weekend and afterhours work
  • Experience in both Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery

  • Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)

Desirable


Strong clinical skills in mínimally invasive Thoracic and Cardiac surgery- We will also expect senior specialist to have demonstrated advanced clinical experience outlined in a CV that clearly and comprehensively outlines the applicant's professional history.

Be able to demonstrate their ability to undertake duties and responsibilities deemed by THS as those expected of a Senior Specialists.


  • Have demonstrated their advanced ability to provide leadership to their colleagues through either clinical or administrative means.
- _Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee's responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered._
