This role will work within the Systems and Integration Operations (SIO) area of the Warfighting Networks and Applications Support Organisation (WSO), ICT Delivery Division, Chief Information Officer Group, Department of Defence.


Responsibility for duties including, but not limited to:

  • Provide technical leadership in design, architecture, build and transition activities. Work with related project teams and product lines to identify and deliver the solution requirements and systems integration.
  • Author, review, contribute and develop Architecture Designs, including (Solution, High-Level, Detailed) and, in accordance with the surrounding landscape including specifications (functional, governance, performance) and requirements (functional, processual, procedural, security) and translate those into operational documentation.
  • Conduct capability and concept development in alignment with technical requirements.
  • Conduct Standards and Framework GAP analysis and investigation activities.
  • Conduct Security requirements analysis and development.
  • Provide support and conduct of Validation and Verification (V&V) activities as it relates to architectural prototypes and designs.
  • Support and/or undertake internal assessments of the Enterprise and Expeditionary ADF environments.
  • Implement technical requirements for the certification and accreditation of systems within the ADF.
  • Develop and support the Cyber-Worthiness of the Enterprise and Expeditionary systems.
  • Act with and support, design authorities for the existing environment/s and proposed solutions within the project teams on behalf of the ADF.
  • Identification and Assessment of technical risks and work in collaboration with project stakeholders to inform and provide mitigation options and caveats.
  • Design, Support, Collaborate, Attend, (internal and/or external) project meetings, workshops, informational sessions, training, requirements gathering, use case analysis, or other related activities.
  • Create / Inform Development / Testing Framework
  • Security Controls and attribution requirements.
  • Align designs with Security requirements, future planning, procedures, and support and requirements frameworks.
  • Report to the Technical Lead in relation to status of activities, identified risks and task completion at a high enough level to allow upward communication through the organisation chain of command.
  • Develop Compliance and Governance requirements inline with ITIL v
  • Align all designs and architectures between federated and integrated networks according to approved standards, both on planning future designs or conforming to existing, to allow converging interoperability and collaboration.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 510 years of experience in designing, configuring, implementing, coding and developing, DevSecOps CI/CD pipelines within Australia Government agencies, specifically using GitLab, Ansible and PowerShell.
  • 510 years of experience as a developer, using Microsoft.
NET technologies (i.e. C#, , PowerShell), and programming common API integration, e.g. RestFUL.

  • Detailed knowledge and skills in the process, design, implementation, configuration of DevSecOps technologies; specifically using Ansible, GitLab, PowerShell, bash, python, Jira and confluence.
  • Security hardening of DevSecOps technologies in accordance with relevant governance frameworks and policies.
  • Detailed knowledge and skills in utilising DevSecOps technologies to deliver infrastructureascode and documentationascode.
  • Experience developing patterns and templates for infrastructure automation in support of DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines and rapid onboarding of technical resources.
  • Must have experience working with and automating Windows and Linux platforms.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills with demonstrable experience of presentation and engagement with stakeholders, projects and business areas.
  • Must be able to rapidly build, automate and deliver proof of concept systems to support analysis, testing, accreditation and development activities, within a DevSecOps process.
  • Must be able to adapt quickly to changing requirements in a fast paced highly kinetic environment to meet changing deadlines and deliverables.
  • Must be able to coordinate and lead technical resources to deliver a DevSecOps CI/CD environment, with a heavy requirement on doing the actual tool integration, coding and automation.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working within the Defence environment.
  • Experience working in highly secure kinetic environments.
  • 5+ years of experience working with source code repositories.
  • 5+ years of experience in configuring, building and supporting multivendor geographically dispersed solutions.
  • 5+ years supporting environments with varying levels of required security, caveats and controls.
  • Experience with onprem containerization technologies such as Docker, Podman, Openshift, Kubernetes
