Howden Australia has an immediate need for a results driven Graduate Design Engineer to plan and execute complex professional/product engineering work. The role reports to the Chief Engineer and requires individual judgement and initiative in the application of engineering principals, techniques and methods on all Howden products . The successful candidate will need to ensure that projects and services are executed on budget, on ti me and to the required engineering and design standards.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Under the supervision of senior engineers, to plan, coordinate and manage professional engineering works
  • S upport the design activities for a specific project, reporting functionally to the Project Manager for those activities
  • Monitor and control the quality, timeliness and cost of delivery of design works
  • Manage design resource allocation to maximise efficiency and effectiveness
  • Administer, both technically and commercially, contracts for external design resources
  • Plan and manage interfac es between clients, designers, consultants, suppliers, and project staff
  • Manage the effect of design changes in terms of technical, budget and schedule .
  • Fulfil the role of Designer, Checker and/or Verifier in the provision of engineering work s
  • Certify professional engineering work as being compliant with relevant codes and standards
  • Attend site, supplier or customer premises to ascertain or confirm project requirements
  • Carry out detailed engineering calculations
  • Develop detailed designs in ske tch and drawing format
  • Develop technical specification documents and reports
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on technical aspects of supplier offers
  • Participate and positively contribute in meetings and workshops
  • Provide technical support for tendering, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance activities
  • Provide ad - hoc technical advice to management, projects and tendering personnel
  • Assess repair work scopes and compile repair procedures .
  • Offer solutions to the works regarding manufacturing / construction non - c onformances and rectifications in order to assist the works.
  • Carry out & verify work to comply with applicable national & international codes & standards.
  • Ensure designs adhere to health and safety standards and comply with legislative requirements thereby providing products w here risks of injury have been minimised and thus providing a safe working environment.
  • Provide input at design reviews to ensure designs are in accordance to Howden standards and conform to clients' requirements .
  • Plan, coordinate and manage professional e ngineering work for which it is necessary to modify proven approaches, devise new techniques with continuous improvement approach.

What do you need to bring?

It is fundamental that have an Engineering Degree in an appropriate engineering related discipline . You'll be proficient in the use of 2D CAD and 3D modelling , as well as in Microsoft Office applications

You have a creative approach to proactively and independently solve problems, and to generate new ideas. You're comfortable working in an autonomous manner, whilst also being an enthusiastic team player. You display good communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to communicate with people at all levels of the organization. The role holder will be self m otivated and self di rected , with the ability to handle a number of tasks simultaneously and prioritize workload effectively.

The following would also be highly regarded:

  • Proficiency in finite element analysis and results inte rpretation
  • Excel coding experience will be preferred
  • Proficiency in the use of Autodesk software: AutoCAD, Inventor and Vault.
  • K nowledge o f rotating machinery
