Where you'll be working


Sydney Sexual Health Centre (SSHC) is part of South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) and is the oldest sexual health service in NSW.

Operating since 1933, it plays an intergral role in enacting NSW Health's HIV and STI strategies.

As a member of the Counnselling team you will be working alongside medical and nursing staff providing psychosocial assistance and interventions to improve the well-being and sexual health of our priority populations.

Plan, coordinate, and implement in-depth levels of clinical expertise and extensive specialised knowledge within sexual health in order to provide high quality counselling care to all patients of the Sydney Sexual Health Centre, consistent with NSW Health, South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures and standards.

Sydney Sexual Health Centre (SSHC) is one of the sexual health and blood borne virus services (SHBBV) within the SESLHD Population and Community Health (PaCH) directorate.

The role may also be required to collaborate and work in partnership with the other SHBBV services within the organisation.


_Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing._

_ All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW._

_ Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations._

  • Qualifications in Counselling in accordance with the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award
  • Clinical experience in sexual health counselling, HIV and viral Hepatitis counselling, drug and alcohol interventions, and crisis counselling.
  • Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels
  • Ability to provide indepth advice and education to enhance service delivery and to guide and support others in providing service excellence, with the capacity to provide clinical supervision to other staff
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning
