Located on Gadigal and Bidjigal land (Randwick NSW), Black Dog Institute is the only Medical Research Institute in Australia to investigate mental health across the lifespan, our aim is to create a mentally healthier world for everyone. The Role

his position will play a key role in supporting the ClearlyMe Blended Care project. Blended care refers to the integration of face-to-face therapy with a digital intervention. This 3-year project involves the development and evaluation of a blended care treatment framework combining the ClearlyMe app with face-to-face therapy for depression in adolescents.

This role will provide a high level of technical, operational and research support to senior research staff, and will have responsibility for managing day to day operations of the project and liaising effectively with internal and external stakeholders. A key part of this role will be to liaise and work closely with external mental health professionals (counsellors, psychologists) in the development of this service model.

Duties & Responsibilities

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Provision of practical and efficient research support.
  • Support in the conceptualisation, design, and successful conduct of this project.
  • Coordinate, plan and complete day-to-day research activities within the framework of agreed project timelines and responsibilities.
  • Provision of administrative and clerical duties, including attendance at research meetings, preparing meeting agendas, preparing and distributing minutes, as required.
  • Liaise with organisations, data custodians, stakeholders and collaborators and actively participate in meetings and discussions as required.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external stakeholders, including mental health professionals.
  • Assist with data management, in adherence to the project's research data management plan.
  • Maintain meticulous records.
  • Undertake literature reviews.
  • Assist with quantitative/qualitative data analyses.
  • Assist with research reports, peer-reviewed publications, presentations, ethics applications, progress reports and other governance requirements.
  • Recruit and interview research participants (who in this case will be mental health professionals) using interview and survey methodologies.
  • Undertake mandatory training, including GCP and research integrity.
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the Institute and take all reasonable care to ensure your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself and others.

Selection Criteria

Essential Criteria

  1. An honours degree in Psychology or a related discipline, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  2. Demonstrated experience working on research projects, including participant recruitment and data collection, ethics applications, and preparation of reports and/or other publications.
  3. Demonstrated outstanding interpersonal communication skills to initiate and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
  4. Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
  7. A valid Working with Children Check, or eligibility to obtain one on starting the role.
  8. Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

Desirable Criteria

  1. Experience working with mental health professionals and/or in clinical settings.
  2. Experience working with adolescents.
  3. Experience working in e-health and digital technology, including experience with research software (e.g. Qualtrics, REDCap).
