What you'll be doing
The research assistant will contribute toward the research effort of the Bones and Immunology Group across several funded projects focused on resident tissue macrophage biology and their support of haematopoiesis.
The researcher will need to be able to work both independently and collaboratively toward delivering research outputs using experimental approaches spanning preclinical models, immunology techniques and molecular biology.
The researcher will participate in both implementation of experiments and analysis of generated data. They will provide technical support to the Group Leader and postdoctoral researchers within the team.
About you
You will have a Bachelor degree in Science, or a related discipline.
Essential
Knowledge in cell biology, physiology and pathophysiology Experience in appropriate record keeping and executing high quality. Pre-clinical animal model drug administration experiments Multi-parameter flow cytometry, Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence staining Brightfield and confocal microscopy Evidence of ability to execute experiments with reproducible inter and intra experiment replicates. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills, including experience in writing scientific documents. Demonstrable understanding of the relevant codes of conduct relating to biomedical research activity. Appropriate skills in using computer programs and web-based tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, statistical analysis software, Endnote referencing tool, and NCBI Resources including PubMed. Ability to rapidly acquire knowledge and technical expertise related to the research specialty. Knowledge and experience in immunology and hematology – desirable Experience with tissue processing, sectioning and histology – desirable Experience with small animal handling, welfare monitoring, preclinical imaging and/or dissection – desirable Experience in molecular biology techniques – desirableWhy join us?
