Our Community Orthoptists deliver specialist low vision assessments, training and other interventions to enable clients with vision impairment to maximise the use of their residual vision.

Services are delivered to clients of all ages at our St Leonards and Parramatta clinic, community locations and client homes so applicants should be comfortable to travel regularly around the Metro South region.


Key accountabilities:

  • Working with clients to provide individualised, evidencebased lowvision Orthoptic services that promote independence, enable the achievement of their identified goals and that align to the relevant internal and industry practice standards.
  • Establish and maintain referral pathways for Low vision services, via referrers, professionals and community groups.
  • Administration including (but not limited to); rostering and report writing via our customer relationship management tool.

Essential experience and skills:

  • Tertiary qualification in Orthoptics or equivalent.
  • Current registration as an Orthoptist with the Australian Orthoptic Board.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team, as well as independently.
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills.
  • Attention to detail, and skills in analysis, planning and problem solving.
  • Ability to be flexible, adapt to varying workloads, and to effectively manage multiple tasks.
  • Confirmed "Working With Children Check" and/or "Working with Vulnerable People Check" (or willingness to complete).
  • Hold a current class C driver licence.
