Victorian Public Service About Us:

Ministerial Services, Policy Reform and Programs (MSPRP) comprises several business units, including: Ministerial Services and Coordination, Policy Reform and Programs and Redress Design.

These business units will be responsible for providing critical departmental and Ministerial coordination support and delivering essential family violence programs and crime prevention grants.

MSPRP is responsible for delivery of priority justice policy reforms in line with departmental and Ministerial priorities.
It also leads on crime prevention, family violence and the public intoxication reforms.
MSPRP teams work in a dynamic environment, requiring agile policy teams to respond to key priorities as they arise.

The Violence Prevention Safety and Policy Team works in collaboration across the department and with other areas of government to drive and support ongoing family and sexual violence reforms to continue to improve women's safety.


About the Role:

As the Senior Policy Officer, you will be responsible to ensure sound policy and strategy advice is provided to senior departmental executives on priority justice policy issues.

You will be required to be agile and work across different workstreams depending on priorities.

You will contribute to the progression of priority policy reform across the department and you will be required to develop and maintain key working relationships across the department, other government departments and key agencies to ensure considered advice is provided on policy issues.


Some of your duties will include:

Providing high level policy and technical advice to Ministers and Departmental Executives on a wide variety of priority justice policy issues.

Leading, with limited direction, in the development and implementation of policy and legislative proposals, including through consultation and negotiation in relation to options for reform and the preparation of relevant documentation.

Undertaking complex, sensitive research, analyse policy development and delivery including the identification and resolution of emerging issues, risks and trends impacting on the achievement of key government and departmental objectives.

About You:
As an ideal candidate, you will possess: Strong conceptual and analytical skills.
Ability and experience in providing advice on complex policy issues, considering available evidence research, data and evidence.
Stakeholder leadership in engagement and policy design.
Sound knowledge of Government and of Cabinet and Parliamentary processes.

Qualifications:
A tertiary qualification in a related discipline would be highly desirable.
