The National Education Officer will work within our national education team across all aspects of this work.

This is a role that will draw on your organising skills and experience, adult education skills, and your ability to work effectively with people at all levels and locations of the union.

PRIMARY ROLE STATEMENTThe National Education Officer is responsible for developing and delivering classroom and on-the-job training and follow up programs for AMWU workplace leaders and officials.

Working in the National Education team, the role requires the flexibility to undertake development work across organising, industrial and campaigning content areas.

To ensure that programs are fit for purpose, close collaboration with people from all levels of the union is essential.

This role requires interstate travel from time to time.
KEY RELATIONSHIPSThis position reports directly to the National Education Coordinator.

Other key relationships include the National Senior Coordinator – Organising & Member Development, National Secretary, National President, Assistant National Secretaries & the State Secretaries.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESDeliver education and development activitiesDeliver a wide range of courses to delegates and officials, as required by the program schedule.

Contribute to delegate development through systematic coaching and mentoring with clear processes.

Undertake training of members and delegates at short notice either in a training room or in the workplace as required from time to time.

Develop curriculum and materialsDevelop curricula necessary for new courses as required and/or editing current materials to meet the changing needs and expectations of delegates and officials.

Work together with designated national and state officials to prepare curriculum for specialist courses to meet organisational development needs.
Liaise with other stakeholders to scope out and prepare training materials required to prosecute campaign targets.

Support organising and campaigningWork with the National Secretary, other National officials, State Secretaries and Organisers to develop plans for delegates to build our union organisation on the job.

Support and promote the policy of our union in all areas.

Build union capacityWork together with other educators (including other union educators) when delivering courses, to share ideas, training techniques and to further develop skills and expertise.

Write reports following courses to assist in the implementing plans that arise from training and to involve other relevant stakeholders.

Undertake personal development training that may be required by the national office.
Build alignment across our union with all other teams and all branches.
OtherBuild and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.

In addition to these activities, from time to time you may be asked to undertake tasks that are outside your usual span of duties but that are within your capabilities.

Working collaboratively and supporting one another is an integral part of the AMWU's positive workplace culture.

SELECTION CRITERIA (ABILITIES, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE)A commitment to the principles of unionism, social justice, and inclusionA commitment to equal opportunities and diversitySound knowledge and expertise in adult education and participatory education techniques.

Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor othersExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsThe ability to work independently and without supervision.
The ability to travel regionally and interstate on a regular basis.

Competent use of Microsoft Office packagesA valid Australian Drivers LicenceBe eligible to obtain an Entry Permit under the Fair Work ActAn understanding of the Industrial Relations Laws under relevant State and National LawsRecent experience as a union organiser or campaignerExperience with supply chain campaigning, training or development a plus.


SALARY AND CONDITIONS:
Depending on experience, the role is remunerated at $110, Level 5 of the classification structure in the Wages and Conditions of Employment for Officials and Officers)

Generous conditions including:
One RDO per month11.5% superannuation + salary sacrifice optionsPaid Christmas shutdown17.5% annual leave loading
