Mental Health Worker Full Job Description

  • Casual position: $ 35 per hour + superannuation + penalty rates on weekends
  • You choose your hours, high level of autonomy, no fixed office location
  • 15+ hours per week available if desired
  • Support individuals who are a part of the NDIS with psychosocial disability (mental health)

About Onelove Community and Health Care Services


Onelove Community and Health Care Services is an advocate of mental health awareness and a NDIS services provider who works with NDIS participants and their families.

Who are Self-managed and Plan Managed


We believe in the power of choice, control and involvement of the participants with regards to planning, decision making and executing the disability support plan that is right for them.


When you start work with Onelove Community and Health Care Services, we will connect you with requests for service from clients in your area.

You will then work with the client to identify when you would like to set a recurring appointment with them (usually on a once or twice per week basis).

This means you have significant control over how much and when you work, so you may schedule your work around other commitments as you like.

That said, the work is very regular, and you will likely work the same hours each week.

It can take a short while to build up to your desired number of hours per week.

We aim to have most people attaining their desired workload within 3 weeks of commencing with us, though it can sometimes take a little longer.


You will work with each of your clients for an agreed number of hours per week, depending on the funding that is available in their NDIS plan, and their own preferences.

Eventually, you will have a stable roster of clients that you see at the same time each week in an ongoing fashion.


To give you a sense of what the day-to-day job may look like, here are some examples of things that we might do with our customers:

  • Meet them in their homes for a cup of tea and a chat about how they are travelling that week
  • Help them with their daily living tasks, such as shopping for groceries or attending a doctor's appointment
  • Going for a walk in the park and enjoying nature
  • Helping with personal administration, e.g Centrelink, paying bills, looking for housing
  • Supporting them to feel more confident in busy social situations by going to the local shopping center together.
  • Improving physical health by supporting them to attend a gym or exercising outdoors.
  • Helping them to live independently by assisting with gardening or cleaning at home

ABOUT YOU

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, comfort meeting and engaging new people
  • Prior experience in a mental health or communityrelated role.
  • Are looking for a consistent and stable routine where you work at least 20 hours each week
  • Please note: Approximately 90% of this will be done on weekdays during 95 hours
  • Please realize that if you study full time, and are expecting to work mostly on weekends or nights, then this is not the job for you
  • Have the ability to manage your own roster and work independently.
  • Are looking to commit to at least 12 months in the role so as to ensure a stable and consistent service for your clients.
  • Access to a car and a current driver's license (you will be required to transport clients in your own vehicle, but you will be reimbursed per kilometer for this)
  • Desired but not essential: relevant training/education, such as:
  • A degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field
  • A Cert IV in Mental Health, or related field
  • Lived experience with mental health
  • Must have or Just Applied NDIS Screening Check
  • Working with Children Check
