Job Description

About the Role

Brisbane Girls Grammar School welcomes applications for a Communications Officer. This is a full-time, ongoing position.

The Communications and Engagement Department is a high-performing team responsible for the delivery of compelling, purposeful communications to maintain effective engagement with key stakeholders, and to promote the School's reputation as one of Australia's leading girls' schools. In 2025 the School will celebrate its 150th anniversary, and in 2026 will broaden a Girls Grammar education to Years 5 and 6, providing an exciting opportunity to contribute to the School's communications activities.

Reporting to the Communications Manager, this diverse role will provide quality communications advice and services to the Department and broader School community.

The key accountabilities of the Communications Officer include the following:

  • providing communications advice and support on a broad range of tasks and projects, as directed by the Communications Manager
  • creating captivating content for a range of communication channels
  • managing the School's social media channels, including strategic planning and creation of engaging, authentic and relevant content
  • contributing to traditional and online platforms including print and digital publications, in addition to writing other forms of content (media releases, articles, reports, etc.)
  • managing the School's weekly newsletter, BGGS News, including drafting and editing content, sourcing imagery, and creation of the newsletter on the School's website
  • liaising with the student-led Publications Committee and managing the editing and design of the annual School Magazine
  • contributing to the maintenance of the School's digital library (using a digital asset management platform) and other brand assets, including logos and templates
  • working closely with the School's photographer to capture important photography/videography, managing external photographers/videographers when on-site, and assisting with photography/videography, as and when required
  • completing monthly website and social media reports, to ensure continual improvement and refinement of communication approaches and to evidence achievement
Desired Skills and Experience

You will also have:

  • tertiary qualifications in Communications or Journalism
  • minimum of two to three years' experience in a similar role in a high-performing environment
  • demonstrated strong writing skills, with the ability to tailor content for different channels and audiences
  • the ability to manage multiple and, at times, competing priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • a high level of competence in MS Office Suite and social media and website management
  • excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage professionally with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • exceptional attention to detail
  • a high degree of initiative and enthusiasm
  • the ability to acquire and maintain a Positive Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
