As a Fitter Armament, you will utilize your skills both in the workshop and out in the field during various domestic exercises, deployments, and humanitarian missions. Fitter Armourers play a crucial role in the Corps of the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RAEME).

Your responsibilities will involve inspecting, repairing, modifying, and reconditioning a diverse range of military weapon systems and equipment, which includes pistols, semi-automatic and fully automatic weapons, grenade launchers, and anti-armour weapons. Additionally, you will apply your welding and machining expertise to inspect and repair small engines, miscellaneous equipment, and pressurized systems like fuel delivery equipment.

You will have the chance to enhance your technical proficiency through specialized courses that cover equipment such as:

  • Special Forces weapons
  • Marine and diving equipment
  • Army Watercraft
  • Weapon systems of the Abrams Tank and other Armoured Fighting Vehicles
  • Artillery
  • Weapon systems mounted on Army helicopters like the Dillon Minigun.

As a Fitter Armament, your key responsibilities will include:

  • diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing the Army's assortment of weapons, spanning pistols, rifles, shotguns, machine guns, and grenade launchers.
  • diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing intricate weapon systems, workshop tools, miscellaneous equipment, and carrying out general engineering tasks.
  • collaborating with specialized teams on advanced armoured vehicle armament systems and artillery platforms.
  • conducting safety and technical inspections on weapon systems and specialized equipment.
  • engaging in general soldiering tasks like manning defensive positions, patrolling, traffic control, camouflage of vehicles and field equipment, and navigation.
