Finance Officer (APS5)

About the role

Our Commonwealth government client is seeking to engage a Finance Officer at the APS5 level. They are responsible for assuring that Australian Government entities and prescribed private sector organisations act with integrity and treat people fairly. The role includes management and oversight of operational activities of the property function, internal budgets, management reporting and finance function.

An initial six-month labour hire contract is available, which can be undertaken in Canberra, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

Please note: only Australian citizens with the ability to obtain/maintain a Baseline clearance can be considered for these roles.

Duties:

  • Providing advice to line areas, and drafting briefs and reports in relation to finance, security, fraud & integrity matters
  • Assisting the ASA with implementation of initiatives that supports the Office to strengthen its finance, security, fraud & integrity control capabilities and comply with control obligations
  • Assistance in external budget management, including preparation of adjustments in the central finance system (CBMS) and associated supporting documentation
  • Managing accounts receivable, accounts payable, credit card, and travel processes and systems ensuring functions are compliant with finance policies and procedures
  • Maintaining financial management information system (FMIS) records for financial management and the internal budget, including reviewing budget documents to other sources of information (e.g. FMIS and HR systems) to ensure accuracy and completeness of staffing and supplier costing data
  • Managing assigned tasks for month-end management reporting and year-end financial statements

Requisite capabilities and experience:

  • The ability to communicate effectively to influence outcomes and support productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure to achieve results, and think strategically to identify areas for focus and implement well-considered solutions
  • Demonstrated experience in financial administration and reporting
  • Demonstrated understanding of processes relating to accounts payable/receivable, budget management and travel reconciliation
