Reporting to Nigel Leishman, Senior Project Manager – MRPA and Jonathan Murphy, Senior Project Manager - NWPA, are you ready to take on the role of Site Surveillance Officer for Projects?

The Site Surveillance Officer holds the crucial responsibility of ensuring that all works carried out on-site are done safely and appropriately in line with established documentation for V/Line. This SSO plays an integrated part in the Alliance, crucial for promoting integration and providing on-site support.

This role involves creating a safe workplace for staff by identifying, understanding, and managing risks, as well as maintaining a secure environment for customers and visitors.

Strong communication skills are a must as you will be handling safety matters, site access, surveillance, reporting, compliance, and handovers.

About the role

To be eligible for this position, you must possess a current, valid Victorian Driver Licence and be willing to travel for on-site work.

Key responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor and report on all on-site activities related to identified issues. Communicate with site-based V/Line Operations and Maintenance staff.
  • Construction Compliance: Ensure that works comply with Standards and Specifications. Maintain a record of observations and escalate issues to the Project Manager when necessary.
  • Site Access Coordination: Coordinate and ensure site access follows relevant contract documentation and V/Line procedures.
  • Safety and Compliance Audits: Audit compliance with site access requirements, safe working practices, and rail environment safety.
  • Occupations: Supervise and coordinate necessary occupations to complete the works.
  • Reporting and Recommendations: Provide timely reports on identified issues and offer clear recommendations for ongoing safety and efficiency.
  • Handover Documentation: Review and accept hand back and handover documentation.
  • Incident Reporting: Report all safety, security, and environmental incidents following V/Line procedures.

The Site Surveillance Officer plays a vital role in overseeing and coordinating rail occupations, navigating a complex regime with activities occurring around the clock. Effective communication with team members during these periods is essential for seamless handovers.

About you

To excel in this role, you should have experience in the following areas:

  • Rail Expertise: Solid understanding of the Rail Safety Act 2006 (Vic) and rail standards. Over a decade of experience in building/construction.
  • Supervisory Skills: Minimum of 5 years in a site role or construction support positions (including engineering interface). Demonstrated stakeholder management skills.
  • Occupations Experience: Exposure to supervising Track, Civil, Structures, or OCS assets. Ability to work effectively in a complex occupation regime with round-the-clock works.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate during occupations. Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation abilities.

Desirable:

  • A training qualification in
Frontline Leadership and/or engineering is desirable, with preference given to candidates with a proven track record in heavy rail.

This vacancy has arisen due to an internal transfer.

The salary range for this permanent position is up to $111,723 (including superannuation).

This is a Medical Category 3 role.
