About You


Your passion and enthusiasm for the law and genuine interest in advising on school-related issues will see you succeed in this role.

Your strong written and verbal communication skills, sound judgment, and commitment to excellent client service will be most valued. This role also provides an opportunity to show leadership, in both managing the team and developing strong client relations.

Essential requirements of the role

  • Legal qualifications and a current unrestricted NSW legal practising certificate (or eligibility for an unrestricted practising certificate)
  • Ability to provide quality independent legal advice and manage legal risk
  • Commitment to the value of public education

Key knowledge and experience

  • Demonstrated interest in leadership and management skills, with the ability to mentor and supervise junior lawyers and support staff
  • A strong commitment to client service and delivering highquality legal services
  • Knowledge and experience in one or more areas of law that impact the NSW Department of Education or capacity to obtain such knowledge and experience
  • Ability to provide quality independent legal advice and manage legal risk
  • Complementary capabilities in statutory interpretation, legal research, legal drafting, prosecution and advocacy
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
