KU Alfred Child Care Centre has been established to support the working arrangements of Alfred Hospital employees; they have been operating since 2004. The service opens, Monday-Friday from 6:30am-6:00pm and offers up to 60 places across nursery, toddler and preschool rooms. The service is in Alfred Lane close by to St Kilda Road and Commercial Road, providing multiple options to travel to the service via public transport. The service is a 3 minute walk from Prahran train station and easily accessible via tram from Flinders Street Station.

We have 14 members of the team at KU Alfred including educators, a service cook and administrator. Over half of the team have been with the service for more than 10 years and have been recognised for their years of service with KU.

The team and children enjoy regular excursion to Fawkner Park, Deaf Children Australia, the Coppin Centre, the local library, Shrine of Remembrance and of course around the hospital. They also participate in community events and celebrate unique festivals.

The service is well resources with sustainable materials, whenever possible, the use of plastic equipment is avoided. At the service and you will see children interacting with each other and with adults, hidden within what looks like carefree playtime, are curated experiences and endless opportunities. Children can enjoy ever-changing challenging and interesting activities and equipment.

We are looking for someone to work 8 hours a day, Monday-Friday on a roster with varied shifts.

Of course, you will need:

  • Australian working rights
  • A current Working with Children Check
  • An ACECQA recognised Diploma
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates along with current separate approved Asthma and Anaphylaxis Management certificates
  • Completed Child Protection Training as well as demonstrated understanding of current child safe practices
  • Sound understanding of the Education and Care Services National Law and the Education and Care Services National Regulations (2011)
  • Working knowledge of the Early Years Learning Frameworks (EYLF)
