About the Team:

The SEO Group's mission is to make Canva easily discoverable for users worldwide. One in every five Canva users comes through SEO, providing various design tools, editable templates, print products, and AI-powered content and image generation to fulfill different design needs. The objective is to establish Canva as the go-to solution for design queries on search engines.

About the Role:

The primary areas of focus for SEO engineering consist of SEO Growth and Programmatic SEO.

SEO Growth strives to leverage every SEO opportunity arising from Canva's expanding product range. As an Engineer in this team, you will:

  • Collaborate with SEO specialists and product feature teams to identify new feature integration possibilities on landing pages.
  • Develop and implement tools and interactive landing pages to assist users in finding solutions for their design needs.
  • Contribute to the development and upkeep of the in-house CMS system.
  • Participate in enhancing the page rendering system.

Programmatic SEO aims to automate and scale Canva's SEO processes using advanced AI/ML technologies. As an Engineer in this team, you will:

  • Collaborate closely with SEO Specialists, Machine Learning Engineers, Data Scientists, and Backend Engineers to establish an internal tool for automating Canva's SEO operations.
  • Design and create a high-quality UI/UX for analyzing, presenting, and managing large datasets.

What you'll do:

  • Collaborate with product designers and managers to develop efficient and reusable front-end components and functionalities.
  • Address any performance bottlenecks affecting page load/rendering.
  • Integrate with external services to enhance functionality.
  • Engage in design and code assessments.
  • Work across different teams and disciplines to propose new concepts and improvements aligning with our objectives.
  • Lead projects from inception to delivery, taking full ownership.

What we're seeking:

  • We're interested in hearing from you if you:
  • Have a strong foundation in computer science.
  • Understand HTML, CSS, a11y, and basic UX principles.
  • Are knowledgeable in web security & privacy controls like CSRF, CORS, CSP, etc.
  • Possess a solid understanding of web fundamentals such as DNS, HTTP, and modern web delivery techniques including SSR, CDNs, Edge compute.
  • Are well-versed in automated testing methods (including unit, integration, visreg, and E2E) as well as observability and reliability basics.
  • Have excellent communication abilities to establish relationships with diverse individuals and drive impact within the organization.
  • Can read and comprehend code, especially Java, from other product teams that SEO may not be familiar with.
  • Understand the importance of delivering value beyond just writing code.

Not mandatory, but advantageous if:

  • You have a fundamental understanding of Search Engine Optimization and are familiar with SEO research tools such as Botify, Lumar, etc.
  • You have worked with TypeScript (or similar typed languages).
