The Listowel Memorial Hospital has been providing acute care and complex continuing care services to the residents of North Perth and the hospital's catchment area since 1919. Our fully accredited hospital offers a wide range of primary and secondary services including 24-hour emergency services. In-patient and out-patient care, specialist clinics and supportive diagnostic services. The Hospital has an active staff of 10 Family Practitioners as well as several consultant staff.

Hospital services include:

  • Emergency, Operating Rooms, Diagnostic and Ambulatory Care Units (December 2007)
  • Maternal/Newborn Unit
  • Diabetes/Nutrition Counseling
  • Speech-Language
  • Physiotherapy
  • Breast Health Centre
  • Fully integrated electronic patient health record with Family Health Team and Physician offices.
The Wingham and District Hospital is a modern, progressive acute care facility providing medical, surgical, obstetrical, paediatric, chronic and rehabilitation bed and other services, including 24-hour emergency coverage.

Hospital services include:
  • Emergency department with 24-hour on-call coverage
  • Rehabilitation department including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech language pathology
  • Multiple outpatient specialist clinics held on a regular basis to provide local service
  • Affiliation with London Regional Cancer Centre enabling chemotherapy treatment to be provided locally
  • Many community health related education programs
  • Fully integrated electronic patient health record with Family Health Team and Physician offices.

Position: Medical Laboratory Technologist

Region: Huron and Perth

Description: The Medical Laboratory Technologist(2) provides accurate and timely results to requests for diagnostic tests to physicians and other health careprofessionals to ensure patients have access to current best practices in health care. Must work closely with otherhealth care professionals. Technologists are responsible for performing a variety of laboratory tests, many of whichare complex, involve numerous steps and techniques and require use of professional judgment. Tests may beperformed in one or more of the laboratory sections. Professional application of the principles, laboratory theoriesand techniques of medical technology are used to produce reliable results that aid the physician in diagnosis andtreatment.

The successful candidates will have the ability to work all shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect and test specimens from in-patients, out patients, emergency and pre-operative patients.
  • Report tested results accurately and in a timely way to aid in diagnosis and treatment.
  • Order blood from CBS/SGH, process and cross match blood for transfusion.
  • Ensure equipment is functioning properly and ready for next shift
  • Responsible and provide direction, mentor, correct and report on work of MLA
  • Active and cooperative participation in all quality control programs
  • Recording all readings, calculations and results on specimens, quality control material, standards andequipment in a manner conforming to good laboratory practice
  • Referral of reports to his/her supervisor and/or a Pathologist for final reporting where indicated bylaboratory policy or good professional judgement

Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of a medical laboratory technology program offered at an institution accredited by
  • the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) in Canada
  • Registration with College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
  • 6 months to 1 year previous practical experience in a hospital core laboratory
  • Moderate physical effort
  • High degree of mental effort and analysis

Salary: $ $50.16 per hour
