The Organisaton
One of the largest LGAs in metro NSW is continuing on their path of transformational change and is looking for their next Executive Assessment Planner. This Western Sydney City Council has a rich heritage that balances growth without compromising the environmental and heritage values of the area.

There are numerous initiatives that have resulted in better community engagement, better staff engagement, and provide challenging and rewarding work. Forget what we used to 'know' about Councils, things have changed for the better.

The Role
You will get the opportunity to be involved in a range of complex DAs that you wouldn't get exposure to in many other Councils including urban and agricultural. This is one of the largest LGAs in metro NSW. Senior leadership have been spearheading multiple change initiatives in recent years – from new IT systems that front load info into DAs bringing time savings, through to organisational culture changes bringing corporate values and delivering better outcomes for residents of the community and staff of the Council.

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:
  • Managing major development and planning projects, and taking a leading role in Land and Environment court proceedings for planning matters
  • Assisting the Development Assessment leadership team with business improvement initiatives, and assisting in mentoring and coaching staff within the team
  • Ensuring Council requirements are clearly communicated to developers and the provision of advice is accurate, timely and consistent, preparing appropriately formatted reports that are professionally presented (concise, accurate, and easily understood)
  • Deliver quality customer service to internal and external stakeholders
  • Responding to verbal and written enquiries for advice concerning development application matters and planning
About You
To be successful in this role you will need:
  • Demonstrated post graduate planning experience, including complex development assessment along with qualifications in Town/Urban and Regional Planning or a related discipline
  • Sound knowledge of NSW Environmental Planning & Assessment Act and associated legislation and regulations
  • Clear communication skills – written and verbal – including letter and report writing skills
  • An interest in being part of transformational change – this is being led from the top and includes a range of newer systems and procedures bringing efficiencies that benefit community members and staff, a streamlined DA portal is a great example
  • A collaborative style where you are comfortable taking initiative but also asking for help when needed – a friendly and supportive culture is fostered here
