Your Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join our After Hours Outreach Service with the 'Going Places' Program; assisting people who are sleeping rough or experiencing chronic homelessness in Cairns. Providing case management practices using strengths based, 'housing first' approach, your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Assess and assist people sleeping rough or in unsafe situations, i.e. sleeping in cars, tents, and temporary accommodation
  • Complete regular outreach activities throughout the Cairns region and actively engage with people experiencing homelessness on a daily basis
  • Support eligible clients into short term accommodation and complete referrals to other SHS services
  • Build trust and rapport with our participants to encourage engagement in the program
  • Build and develop strong, constructive relationships with agencies and community partners
  • Engage in creative strategies to support improved program access for people 'sleeping rough.'
  • Update Case notes and administration tasks to ensure effective record keeping for the program

Requirements for Success

  • Ideally qualifications in Community Work, Social Work, Psychology or Behavioural Sciences.
  • Ideally some case management experience but not essential
  • Proven experience building trust and developing relationships with participants and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work over a 7 day roster in an afterhours capacity including regular evening and overnight shifts
  • Some administration and record keeping experience

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
