As our Horticulturist, you will:

  • Lead and manage the macadamia Regional Variety Trial (stage 4) project including field trials, casual staff, budgets and industry reporting to successfully deliver all contracted outputs.
  • Identify key industry stakeholders and build and sustain productive, collaborative relationships with those stakeholders to facilitate regional variety trials in key macadamia production regions throughout QLD and NSW.
  • Coordinate and undertake seasonal field work to assess selections from the macadamia breeding program in regional trial plantings throughout QLD and NSW.
  • Collaborate with the QAAFIled macadamia breeding program to ensure close integration with genetic improvement work to support selection of new genotypes for commercialisation.
  • Collaborate with researchers, biometricians, growers and other industry stakeholders to maximise efficiency and maintain scientific rigour and industry relevance.
  • Effectively communicate results to industry stakeholders via industry publications and events.

Mandatory requirements:

  • Knowledge of tree crop varietal evaluation and improvement, physiology and/or production systems.
  • A Bachelor of Science, Applied Science or equivalent academic qualification from a recognised tertiary institution in a field that is relevant to this position.
  • For international qualifications, the applicant will need their qualification assessed to determine comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework. The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training can assist with these assessments for Queensland residents.
  • A current manual C class driver's licence.
  • The ability to undertake out of hours and overnight work and intra
- and inter-state travel, when required.
