Mining - Operations (Mining, Resources & Energy) We currently have an expatriate opportunity for an experienced professional to join our Mining team at Hidden Valley Mine in Papua New Guinea.

Expatriate Role - 16/12 days FIFO Australia/PNGHidden Valley Mine – Papua New Guinea Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities.

In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns and operates the Hidden Valley mine and owns 50% of the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project.

Harmony recently acquired 100% of the Eva Copper project, a near-term copper project in Queensland, Australia.
These assets are supported by the Harmony SE Asia regional corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane. This is an expatriate opportunity working a 16/12 day FIFO roster from/to Australia.

Reporting to the Mining Operations & MTS Manager, the Mining Principal – Technical Services provides leadership and development for mine planning, drill and blast, geotech, geology, environment, survey andprojects teams while working closely with mine operations to ensuring health, safety environmental and community relations standards are set and maintained.

The key responsibilities of this role include: Ensuring safety standards meet or exceed statutory requirements.
Develop and advance standards and policies for the Technical Services Department.
Assume the role and responsibilities of the Mining Manager in their absence.
Leadership of a multiple discipline department.

Implement systems and processes to ensure that operating discipline is maintained at all times and that quality targets are achieved.

Provide coaching and mentoring both in leadership and technical experience for the development of employees.
Assist in the development of departmental budget consistent with the strategic plan and objectives.
Lead the implementation and development of safety and business improvement areas including performance enhancement systems and technology.
Implementation of behavioural based safety culture, including critical controls reviews and safe behaviour observations coaching and mentoring.

Manage technical services department costs and act in a timely manner to ensure that production targets are met within budgetary constraints.

Manage the performance and development of the technical services team and making recruitment decisions.
Performance management practices and implementing training programs.
Lead decision making, whilst ensuring that employees are empowered to make decisions on issues within their competency.
Monitor decision quality, checking for adherence to policies and standards, and coaching for improvement.
Ensure the department's medium-term targets are identified and achieved through planning, scheduling operational implementation.
Contribute to the development of annual plans, monitor/evaluate performance and provide business analysis for the operation.

Ensure monthly and annual production targets (ore tones, grade and waste movement) are achieved cost effectively in accordance with the Mine Planning processes, whilst adhering to company standards.

Management of performance and costs for key tech services contractors and service providers that are active on site.

About You:

You should be a self-motivated professional holding the following qualifications and experience: Relevant tertiary qualification (Mining Engineering, Geotech, Geology, Survey).

Minimum 10 years' experience in large scale open pit mining including senior supervisory andmanagement roles.
Experienced in mining planning software (Deswik).
Wide range of experience in technical and engineering aspects of mine design and operation.
Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills are necessary along with an appreciation for PNG culture.
