The First Nations Cultural Advisor Service (FNCAS) is a crucial part of the Redlands and surrounding High Risk Team (HRT).

This role involves reviewing relevant cases of First Nations victims, survivors, and individuals using violence from a cultural perspective.

The dedicated service offers tailored culturally appropriate responses and advice for the specific needs of First Nations individuals, respecting local protocols, languages, and family groups.

This process improves the quality of engagement and service responses for First Nations communities. FNCAS at Five Bridges collaborates with the lead agency providing coordination and outreach for the Redlands Region's HRT.


The First Nations Cultural Advisor aligned with the Redlands High Risk Team (HRT) ensures relevant cases are reviewed by a First Nations representative, providing personalized advice based on individual needs and cultural considerations.

This approach enhances the provision of services and engagement with First Nations people and their communities.

This position involves close collaboration with the agency leading the Redlands Region HRT Coordination and Outreach.

The primary focus of Five Bridges' FNCAS are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victim survivors and individuals using violence in the following areas:

  • Daisy Hill
  • Eagleby

  • Tanah Merah

Rochedale South
  • Priestdale
  • Shailer Park
  • Springwood

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Hold an Open C Class Driver's License
  • Current Police Check issued by the Federal Police
  • Working with Children Blue Card
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander individuals
  • Knowledge of Domestic and Family Violence dynamics within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Qualification in a relevant Human Services Field or significant experience in the Domestic and Family Violence sector
  • Experience in working with victims of domestic and family violence
  • Ability to collaborate with other services for positive outcomes
  • Proficient in documentation, case noting, and record-keeping
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of risk assessment and safety planning for domestic violence situations
  • Experience in developing support plans for clients with achievable goals
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize tasks

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE POSITION

  • Attend all weekly meetings
  • Review relevant cases before HRT meetings
  • Complete Requests for Information (RFIs), record meeting notes, and finalize case records
  • Offer cultural guidance and advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims and survivors
  • Establish networks for culturally appropriate Domestic and Family Violence supports
  • Provide advice on Integrated Service Responses for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, considering cultural aspects, languages, and family ties
  • Enhance the cultural competence of the HRT through training and engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture
  • Work closely with the Positive Relationship Cultural Connector (PRCC)
