Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a Policy Specialist on a contract for 12 months with 2x6 months extension options.
Position Overview
The Policy Specialist will straddle two inter-related work streams (the IGA and the NPE lines of effort) and play a key role in ensuring alignment between these work streams and associated activities to support the successful delivery of the PSMB Program.
Specific Duties / Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the PSMB NPE and IGA work plans.
- Contribute to the development of the Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) negotiation strategy, draft IGA and IGA schedules.
- Provide input to drafting instructions to Lawyers.
- Support the scoping, development and costing of options for Australian Government consideration.
- Support the development of operating parameters and an operating model for a potential new entity through consultation and collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Coordinate and support stakeholder engagement with state and territory governments including scheduling of meetings, recording stakeholder comments and feedback.
- Contribute to the development of highlevel written material, submissions and briefs.
- Identify and manage risks and issues including escalation of risks and issues where required.
- Ensure alignment with PSMB Program work streams and activities where appropriate.
- Contribute to the governance and reporting of the PSMB Program.
- General administrative support.
- Other tasks as required.
Essential Skills / Experience:
- Strong policy development and implementation
- Ability to draft wellwritten papers including submissions and briefs.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Office.
To be successful in this role, the individual will need to be self-motivated and have a strong ability to make connections between work streams.
They will also need to have strong analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills, good organisational and writing skills and attention to detail of a high order.
Desirable Skills / Experience:
- contributing to the drafting legal instructions and/or IGAs or MoUs and/or
- scoping, development and costing of options for Australian Government consideration
- development of operating models
- establishing new functions / entities / agencies
Mandatory Requirements:
- Be an Australian Citizen
- Obtain and maintain AGSVA security clearance. Negative Vetting 1 is preferred however Baseline is required at a minimum
- Able to produce a current police check (less than 6 months old)
