Lead Geometallurgist

Work Location:
Perth - Fortescue's Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.

As part of the Perth-based 'Strategic Planning - Metallurgy & Resource Estimation' team, the Lead Geometallurgist role will report to the Principal Geometallurgist, providing leadership and guidance for the mineralogical, geochemical and material property characterisation to inform resource extraction and processing.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Advancing the development of geometallurgical orebody characterisation through a multidisciplinary approach spanning the technical disciplines of geology, mine planning, metallurgy and data science
  • Progressing and enhancing appropriate standards for geometallurgical inputs into geological and mining models to inform decisions throughout the resource value chain
  • Identification of key knowledge gaps in the creation and delivery of geometallurgical models
  • Establishing high level engagement with key stakeholders at all levels of the business
  • Embedding crossdiscipline collaborations with geometallurgical understanding, to enable development of streamlined and efficient solutions and processes for resource realisation
  • Developing team capabilities through training, mentoring and coaching

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant experience working on iron ore deposits desirable with a Tertiary qualification in Geology, Engineering or Metallurgy
  • Demonstrated experience within geoscience or metallurgy throughout the value chain, from drillhole planning through to technical marketing
  • Sound understanding of statistical principals, exploratory data analysis and multivariate data analysis. Demonstrated experience with hypothesis testing and machine learning for classification will be highly regarded
  • Strong planning, leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic. Willing to take on new challenges and learn new skills
  • Be expected to conduct themselves in accordance with Fortescue's Code of Conduct and Values at all times
