We are currently seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to offer engineering support to our Bauxite operations in Gove, Northern Territory.

This position is a fantastic chance for a motivated experienced individual with a solid electrical background to contribute to the future direction of our Electrical Engineering Team. You'll be part of a supportive and inclusive team, guided by your leader to grow and achieve your personal and team goals. You'll follow an 8-day on, 6-day off roster, granting you more time for what truly matters to you and your loved ones. You can conveniently commute to site from Cairns, Darwin, or Brisbane, allowing you to advance your career while enjoying your chosen lifestyle. If you are not currently based in one of these locations, we offer complete relocation support for you to relish the incredible lifestyle.

You'll reside on-site during your roster with a private room equipped with TV, bar fridge, and ensuite. The mess provides a wide array of menu options to cater to various dietary needs, and there are numerous activities to keep you entertained post-shift, including group activities, gym, and a spacious new outdoor common area.

As the Electrical Engineer, you will report to the Senior Electrical Engineer, with responsibilities including:

  • Ensure adherence to electrical regulatory, statutory, and site standards for new electrical installations
  • Continuously enhance asset management strategies to boost plant reliability
  • Offer electrical engineering support to site maintenance and capital projects teams
  • Identify, address, and eliminate electrical risks
  • Approve HV switching programs and manage DigSilent Power Factor Power Model
  • Determine and implement initiatives to enhance production efficiency or reduce cost per tonne
  • Provide electrical design, project management, and develop construction drawings, scopes of work, and cost estimates
  • Coordinate and oversee external electrical and instrumentation experts, and assess site compliance with standards

About you

To be considered for this position, you should possess:

  • A dedication to the safety of yourself and your team
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years' experience working as a field Electrical Engineer in heavy industry (preferably Mining)
  • Experience in electrical design
  • Experience in high voltage and power system studies
  • Understanding of High Voltage and Low Voltage Electrical Standards
  • Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in MS Office
  • Intermediate experience in DigSilent Powerfactory modeling

It will also be advantageous if you have:

  • Chartered Professional Engineer Qualification
  • Hazardous areas experience
  • Knowledge of SAP

Work Location

Our Gove Operations have been providing top-quality bauxite to the global aluminum sector for over 40 years. Situated in Australia's Northern Territory, the operation produces roughly 12 million tonnes of bauxite annually.

With a workforce of 460 individuals, daily activities encompass mine operations, maintenance, asset management, shutdown planning, export operations, cultural heritage management, and post-decision activities following the closure of the site's alumina refinery and associated Residue Disposal Area in 2017.

We anticipate the cessation of bauxite mining operations on the Gove Peninsula by 2030 and are actively working towards supporting the closure process. Recognizing that our operations occur on Indigenous-owned land, we are committed to collaborating with Indigenous communities to build a positive future for Nhulunbuy and the Gove Peninsula post-mining.
