The Keeping Kids at Home (KKAT) program provides intensive early intervention and family support to children, young people and families who are involved in the child protection system.

KKAT work with the Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multi-Cultural Affairs to provide holistic, evidence-based support to parents so that their children can continue to live safely at home.

We also provide assistance to families whose children are returning home after being placed in out of home care.

About You:

  • You are resilient and passionate about child protection and show persistence, courage and determination in order to obtain positive outcomes for families
  • You possess the ability to deescalate and address a complex range of behaviours by using a traumainformed approach to your work
  • You are able to calmly assess and manage challenging situations in a professional manner
  • You have a proven track record of working with children, young people and families who have experienced significant trauma, domestic and family violence (DFV), substance use and family breakdown
  • You hold a Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention Services or have a social work, social science or behavioural science degree (sociology or psychology) or you are in the penultimate year of a relevant degree
  • You will require your own vehicle, Mobile phone and personal device (iPad/tablet or Laptop)
  • Available to work on the Northside of Brisbane

About the Role:

  • This role is casual hours between hours per a week (weekend & weekday work) and is suitable for applicants who are studying and looking to gain experience within Human Services. Shifts start and finish times will range between 7am 9pm.
  • The Family Support Worker (FSW) plays a critical role in the provision of frontline support services to children, young people and families in the Keeping Kids at Home (KKAT) program
  • The FSW is guided by the Family Case Coordinator (FCCO) to implement targeted and purposeful goals to stabilise family environments
  • The FSW assists to implement routines and boundaries, helps parents to make medical and other allied health appointments, provides support to reengage children and young people into educational or training pathways and provides parenting strategies and therapeutic crisis intervention techniques as required
  • The FSW assists to continuously build parental capacity, understanding of attachment and safe and nurtured parenting
  • Additionally, the FSW uses role modelling, unconditional positive regard and mentoring to demonstrate healthy forms of communication and prosocial interactions
  • The FSW may be called upon to attend stakeholder meetings with departmental and other stakeholders from time to time
  • FSW's undertake a variety of shift times including morning, afternoon and evening, with these varying between 3 to 10 hours per day
  • To be successful in the FSW role it is imperative that applicants are able to work autonomously in family homes. Currently KKAT supports families in locations from the Gold Coast through to Ipswich
  • Applicants should hold, or be willing and able to obtain prior to commencing the role, a National Criminal history check, Blue Card, Drivers Licence, First Aid, CPR, and comprehensive motor vehicle insurance
  • Applicants will be required to complete a Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multi-Cultural Affairs
  • Licenced Care Service Criminal History screening check
