Pasture Agronomists to join our client site in Emerald supporting the Queensland Pasture Resilience Program (QPRP). This role is Monday-Friday paying $61.49 per hour. This position is influential in achieving the clients vital focus of ensuring the production and safeguarding of food and fiber for Queenslanders and the global community.

About the role:

  • Work with DAF pasture scientists and beef extension officers in central and northern Queensland to implement the Queensland Pasture Resilience Program (QPRP).
  • Conduct and assist in fieldbased research and development activities on restoring land condition, sown pasture systems research, animal performance and pasture dieback management. This includes supporting the planning, organising and conduct of research as well as liaising with cooperators and the maintenance of project equipment.
  • Support and respond to producer enquiries primarily to support the adoption of improved grazing land management of rangelands, pasture dieback and sown pastures plus other aspects of feedbase management.
  • Support case study properties demonstrating improved grazing land management via pasture monitoring, collecting management records, conducting field days and producing case studies
  • Contribute to communicating and reporting project activities and outcomes of fieldbased onfarm research and demonstration trials for use in extension and project reports for industry, departmental and funding body publications.
  • Conduct fieldbased research and development activities on restoring land condition, sown pasture systems research, animal performance and pasture dieback management. About the individual:

  • Passion for the environment and agriculture industry
  • It is a mandatory requirement for a professional officer to possess an Australian bachelors' degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in Agricultural / Applied or Environmental Science from a recognised tertiary institution
  • You will have experience and knowledge of rangeland and pasture research methodologies and an understanding of, or willingness to gain competency in, rangeland management, and sown pasture systems relevant to Queensland beef businesses.
  • Commitment to obtaining vaccination or provision of evidence of prior immunity to Q-Fever is required.
  • A current 'C' class drivers' licence
  • The ability to conduct field work at various times of the year in Queenslands' grazing lands which may include regular overnight travel.
