**The Department

Position Objective
Cleaners are responsible for carrying out cleaning duties to ensure the cleanliness of Council
facilities as nominated by Council.

As a representative of Council, demonstrated professionalism and a commitment to a high level of
service and continuous improvement in the best interest of Council and the Community are
essential.

Key Responsibilities

_Operational _:

  • Maintain and clean Council facilities to an appropriate standard of cleanliness internally and
- externally, as per the designated schedule of works.

Duties will include but not limited to:

  • window cleaning
- vacuuming carpeted areas
- sweeping and mopping vinyl floors
- dusting
- wiping down all surfaces
- removal of cobwebs
- rubbish removal
- maintaining the toilets

  • Clean allocated areas to a very high standard with consideration to hygiene, safety and
customer needs

  • Ensure that areas being cleaned are maintained in a secure state. Maintain security
awareness, including setting alarms and reporting all suspicious activities to the Cleaning
Team Leader.

  • Exercise duty of care and work in a safe and efficient manner, having regard for your own
safety and other workers and customers of the Flinders Shire Council.

  • Maintain an awareness of new cleaning methods and products.
  • Report any faulty equipment and/or hazards to the Cleaning Team Leader and Safety Systems


Manager.
  • Report any damage or maintenance requirements of other facilities to the Cleaning Team


Leader.
  • Provide support to, and relief of, other cleaning positions in other areas and locations, as

- required.
  • Maintain the cleaner's rooms in a clean and tidy condition.
  • Ensure all decanted chemicals are at correct strength and labelled appropriately.

_General _:

  • Consistently complete allocated tasks to a high standard and within agreed timeframes
  • Undertake other tasks up to and including your competency and level
  • Actively promote the values of the organisation to staff
  • Actively participate in identifying, recommending, developing and implementing measures
through which allocated tasks and responsibilities may be carried out more effectively and
efficiently

_Administration _:

  • Ensure general administration and records management requirements are being met
  • Provide courteous and professional customer service to internal and external customers
- and conduct all transactions in an ethical and efficient manner
  • Contribute positively to a supportive teambased work environment and participate in team
- meetings and training sessions as required
  • Ensure that requests are acted on and reported upon in accordance with Council Policy
  • Keep the Cleaning Team Leader appropriately and adequately informed on the current
state of activities relevant to your role and to highlight in advance any points likely to
influence Council operations or relations with ratepayers and/or the public

  • Maintain a personal time management system to ensure deadlines are met; to ensure that
other staff of the Council are given due notice and time to comply with deadlines so that
their own personal planning is not inconvenienced
