2025 Thoracic Surgery Fellow

  • The Royal Melbourne is one of Victoria's largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, subacute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and communitybased facilities. We are also a proud part of the worldrenowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.
  • The Thoracic Surgical Service performs over 600 cases per year with 5 dedicated operating sessions, 3 clinics & 2 MDMs weekly. The Service employs 4 specialist Thoracic Surgeons and is supported by a nonaccredited Thoracic Surgery Registrar, resident staff and a Lung Liaison Nurse. Whilst the Service is part of the RMH Cardiothoracic Unit, the Thoracic Service operates independently with no requirement for the Fellow to participate in Cardiac Surgery. A 1in2 Thoracic call roster is shared with the Registrar.

About You:

  • Registration with (or eligible for registration) with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Completed their Fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or equivalent for overseas applicants.
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Welldeveloped communication and presentation skills.
  • Fellows needing to complete their final examination hurdle can also be considered. This position will be offered up to full time hours depending on experience.
