About the Role:


The Leading Hand is responsible for the general supervision and coordination of site personnel and subcontractors works, the reporting of all relevant site activities and managing the quality of the work performed as delegated by the Site Foreman/Site Manager.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure the daily programming of all site works is performed in accordance with the company construction program
  • In conjunction with the Project Manager and Site Foreman/Manager, plan and review overall status of project(s) on an ongoing basis
  • Ensure all site resource (labour, machinery, materials, subcontractors etc) are effectively utilized and monitored in order to achieve timely completion of projects
  • Upon completion of task, ensure all appropriate hired in plant and equipment is promptly off hired
  • Ensure the Project Manager is promptly provided with any relevant documentation received from either the client or authorities
  • Identify and record any possible variations to the contract, ensuring the Project Manager/Site Manager is promptly notified
  • Ensure that all statutory requirements (e.g. Local Council, EPA etc) are adhered to on site at all times.
  • Ensure a full understanding of the project's specifications and drawings and versions
  • Ensure that relevant information is communicated to direct reports/subcontractors enabling them to effectively carry out their functions
  • Delegate tasks to direct reports in line with skill, knowledge and ability and where necessary identify skill gaps and training requirements
  • Monitor the progress of subcontractors in order to determine suitability for future work
  • Lead and participate in Group Toolbox Meetings
  • Under the terms of contract for each Subcontractor, the leading hand has authority to suspend works in the case of serious breaches in which case he shall notify the project manager as soon as possible
  • Conduct site safety inspections with project manager or other staff members on a regular basis to check safety compliance and take action to fix problems
  • Review safe work method statements and safety work practices to monitor compliance on site with company safety procedures
  • Randomly inspect site facilities and amenities to ensure compliance with company
  • Monitor that all safety and security equipment is provided and properly installed to satisfy the high standard required

To be successful you will have:

  • Proven experience in a construction and maintenance environment.
  • Ability to supervise a team while communicating with the Project Management Team.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in written and verbal form
  • Ability to establish work priorities and coordinate activities
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of IPMP and HSEQ Compliance
  • Previous experience in a supervisory / leading hand position
  • Trade Certificate in related field
  • Current First Aid Certification***
    Hours / days: Standard industry hours / days***
    Location: TBC (Inner, Southwest or Western Sydney)
