About the OPPORTUNITYWe have an exciting opportunity for a Hardware Team Lead to join our Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) Sustainment program, based at DSTG (SA), reporting to the Engineering Services Manager.

We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and /or flexible hours.

As Hardware Team Lead you will be responsible for overseeing and executing the Hardware Team's activities to support JORN's mission and systems including engineering investigations, safety actions, development of engineering changes, and participation in technical forums, team management, maintaining plans and tolls, holding technical authority, monthly reporting, budget estimation and coordinating with other teams as necessary.

The role including the ability to travel to our remote sites across Australia to better your knowledge of the system and get out from behind the screen.


Key responsibilities include:


Accountable for the delivery and execution of the Hardware Team activities to support operation of the mission and support systems of JORN.


These activities include (but not limited to):
Engineering investigations and analysis including site visitsClose-out of safety, product issues and non-conformancesDevelopment of engineering projects through the engineering lifecycleParticipation in various technical forums as requiredManagement of team projectsOversight to management of a workshopDevelop and maintain capability roadmapsDevelop and maintain work instructions and processesAttend and lead engineering review boards or equivalent to facilitate progression of engineering projects through mandated review gates

Manage and lead a team (of up to

6 direct reports

) to achieve Hardware Team activities:

Conduct Personal Development Reviews with team membersSupport development and maintaining of team members development plans


Maintain a Hardware Two Year Plan outlining the teams planned activitiesManage and maintain a Hardware task management toolResponsible for endorsement or approval of majority of the Hardware teams projectsProvide monthly reporting on teams progress and provide input to JORN periodic reportsEstimating future Hardware teams budgets including resources, materials, travel and trainingProvide technical oversight to engineering projectsAbout YOUBachelor of Engineering Degree (preferably within Electronic or Mechatronics, however open to Electrical or Mechanical)Demonstrated ability to work under own initiative to deliver outputs to time, quality and cost whilst managing competing demands from multiple stakeholders with limited oversightStrong communication skills and able to build highly effective working relationshipsUnderstanding of product safety and security principlesA Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng)We believe in hiring for potential, we know that some candidates hesitate if they don't tick all the boxes.
