DFP Recruitment are proudly partnering with Open Arms who are seeking a Community and Peer Advisor to join their team in Maroochydore on a 12 month contract with an extension up to three years.

The position of

Community and Peer Advisor requires someone who is an ex-ADF member or partner/carer of a current or ex-ADF member. The position entails using one's lived experience to respectfully support and educate consumers and stakeholders about recovery oriented practices and community support services. The position entails working collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders so as to enhance the program's ability to identify and respond to the needs of vulnerable and at risk customers and their families. The position takes a strengths-based, recovery approach to supporting vulnerable and/or at risk consumers to foster wellbeing. The position incorporates the development and maintenance of community relationships and the provision of direct support to individuals and/or their families.

The role requires you to:

  • Role model behaviours which promote recovery and wellness for the purpose of community education and consumer engagement
  • In line with the program's policy and procedures, provide personalised support services to customers and their families through the development of individualised strengthbased assessments and plans, collaboration with others in the client's life (including relevant service providers) and advocacy and referral (i.e., case coordination)
  • Work systemically with key internal and external stakeholders to influence a recovery approach to service delivery for vulnerable or at risk customers, communities and families, in accordance with the program's policy and procedures. This includes the development of a shared knowledge base that assists with informing appropriate practice and referral pathways for service access
  • Cofacilitation of relevant group programs for service consumers and providers
  • Participation in the program evaluation and research activities, contributing to project management activities that implement strategic direction and quality improvement recommendations, and provide feedback for ongoing development of clinical policies and procedures, particularly in relation to community engagement and development activities
  • Undertaking relevant training and professional development, including participation in regular supervision, case conferencing and case review meetings
  • Participating in internal and external meetings as directed. Where appropriate, share knowledge gained through one's relevant lived experience and recovery during team meetings to promote awareness and understanding
  • Working effectively and cooperatively as a member of the program's Care Coordination team.

About you:

  • Lived experience of mental health issues and ADF service, as either an exADF member or partner/carer of a current serving or exADF member (spouse, expartner or widow/widower).
  • Ability to respectfully and effectively utilise this experience to promote a recovery focused approach and to mentor or support others.

Australian Citizenship:

  • Must be eligible and willing to obtain a Working with Children Check
  • Must have a current driver's licence


Highly desirable
  • Case Work and/or experience supporting veterans and/or their family members and promoting recovery orientated behaviours
  • Although not mandatory, a tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in mental health would be is desirable.
