Strategic Communications

The Strategic Communications group provides expert communications services and event and issues management advice to support DTF's policies, projects, and programs.

The team oversees the Department's media relations, websites, internal communications, and social media channels.
Additionally, they provide production services, including graphic design, multimedia, and video production.

Our goal is to make every interaction with our team a positive one for colleagues and key partners, regardless of our individual role or team.

This Senior Strategic Communications Adviser role is part of the Strategic Communications Group which comprises four teams – Media and Communications, Digital and Corporate Communications, Production and Strategic Communications.

About the role

This ongoing role reports to the Strategic Communications Manager and is responsible for producing strategic communications plans and providing strategic communications advice on communicating key policies and initiatives across the department.


Responsibilities include:


Provide advice on creating and delivering above-the-line and below-the-line marketing and communication campaigns, showing advanced strategic marketing skills, excellent writing, and project management abilities, including setting timelines and budgets and allocating resources.

Manage digital marketing programs, using data-driven insights to improve efforts and take advantage of new trends and technologies.
Provide advice to departmental staff on the best ways to communicate with target audiences.
Work with internal teams and external partners to design and execute communication and marketing projects.

Provide strategic advice across a range of departmental activities, projects and programs to ensure a coordinated approach to branding and marketing.

Negotiate and influence decision-making processes to ensure the best possible outcomes for clients, including advising on the development and delivery of digital-based products for DTF.

Demonstrate thorough research and analytical abilities when creating and coordinating communications channels, and continually look for improvement and optimisation opportunities.

Build and maintain effective working relationships, ongoing communication, and successful negotiations with key stakeholders, both internal and external, and contribute to a positive and collaborative workplace culture.

Manage external suppliers, including designers and printers, ensuring compliance with procurement policies and reporting requirements.
About you
We are seeking applications from candidates with demonstrable experience in:

Strategic communication skills:
Demonstrate extensive experience in strategic communications and above and below-the-line marketing, with strong writing skills.
Proven track record in creating innovative strategies across digital media channels.
Skilled in audience-focused content development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation.
Strong skills in writing and designing presentations for various platforms.

Strategic planning :
Experienced in developing communication strategies with clearly defined objectives and steps for achieving them.
Able to anticipate and manage potential and emerging issues, and measure outcomes.
Knowledgeable in communication strategies for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) audiences.

Digital products:
Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering digital communications.

Some experience working across a wide range of digital and technologies, including content management systems, search technology, collaborative and social networking tools and web analytics tools.


Analytical skills:
Skilled in understanding website metrics using Google Analytics to analyse and report on website and campaign performance.
Able to develop methods to improve campaign and website performance.
Experience in preparing reports and insights for senior leaders.

Project management:

Experienced in delivering complex projects, understanding the principles and practices for designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating projects to deliver specific outcomes.

Able to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Stakeholder engagement:
Proven ability to manage various stakeholder needs and find innovative solutions to resolve stakeholder issues.

Initiative:
Demonstrated ability to be proactive and self-starting, able to seize opportunities and act upon them.
Experience and qualifications
Tertiary qualification/s in the fields related to communications, public relations, marketing and/or 5-8 years of relevant professional experience.
Understanding of the VPS communication environment and current corporate communication issues and trends highly regarded.
