ABOUT THE POSITION


Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Metrology Technician is primarily responsible for the operation of the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) as well as conducting first article, in process, and final inspection of all parts, manufactured internally as well as those produced externally, to ensure conformity through the process of measuring, examining, testing, or gauging to the engineering specified requirements.


This position will support the business by:

  • Providing a metrology service for the company group.
  • Creating measurement / metrology Reports.
  • Validating manufactured & sourced components are meeting the required specification
  • Managing the Calibration of measuring equipment by an external calibration company


The incumbent may be required to assist with the approval of first off manufactured components & products, undertaking root cause analysis and identifying corrective actions.


Responsibilities:

Quality ‐ Metrology

  • Prioritise work based on business needs.
  • Use machines, tools, gauges & jigs available to you to confirm manufactured & supplied components are correct to the specification
  • Produce computer generated metrology reports based on comparison to the design specification
  • Drawing critical dimension, weight & critical to quality requirements (including surface finish texture, lustre & colour)
  • Support the Engineering team with validation of development samples.
  • Such as Fast protype & 3D printed samples.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance of the CMM machine and metrology equipment in line with manufacturers specification to ensure ongoing performance can be achieved.
  • Calibrate LFG, as well as any personal, inspection tools and gauges that are used in the carrying out of their role.
  • Promote and support the requirements and principles of the LFG QMS and ISO900
  • Monitor & log daily the temperature and humidity in the CMM /
  • Metrology area in line with the standard requirement for a laboratory environment, ensuring the recording and maintenance of Quality Assurance records
Quality - General

  • Assist where required with the Quality checking of daily first offs.
  • Assist where required with the checking of incoming goods to quality specifications, PPCP and engineering drawings to confirm compliance to company specifications.
  • Provide guidance and training in the use the CMM and other metrology equipment for LFG Team members as required
Safety

  • Follow safe systems of work to maintain a safe environment free from any accidents and injuries.
  • Report Hazards to drive eliminating risks in the workplace.
  • Undertake risk assessments as required
  • Lead by example with correct safety behaviours
  • Safe Manual Handling practises.
Security

  • Follow company policies and procedures to meet the organisations Security requirements.
  • Report Security Incidents in timely fashion to CSO and or SO for actioning/follow up.

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification in Electronic or Mechanical Engineering; or trade background in an Engineering related field; or equivalent qualification

Minimum 3 years' experience in a
metrology or quality related role in a manufacturing environment.

  • Minimum
    5 years' experience in a mechanical or electronic engineering role or similar trade desirable
  • Management of non‐conformance and corrective actions
  • Tolerancing & limits & fits to relevant standards
  • Thread types and sizes.

Statistical process control (SPC)

-
8D process:

  • Six sigma, Lean Manufacturing & 8D Process desirable
  • Supplier PPAP process desirable
  • FMEA & FTA awareness and understanding desirable
  • A sound knowledge in the use of both hand, optical & contactless measuring equipment.
  • A good understanding of Quality systems & processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical/electronic drawings & schematics.
