We are one of Victoria's largest diagnostic pathology laboratories, committed to providing high quality healthcare throughout metropolitan Melbourne, regional Victoria and interstate.

We are a medically led organisation, the oldest established private pathology practice in Australia, and part of the international Sonic Healthcare Group.


Melbourne Pathology has a state-of-the-art 24-hour laboratory in Collingwood with histopathologists also located in satellite laboratories in Malvern (Cabrini Hospital) and Geelong (Epworth Hospital), and additional clinical laboratories in Richmond, Box Hill, Mulgrave, Mornington, Footscray, Moe, Bendigo and Ballarat.

The Anatomical Pathology Department processes over 200,000 biopsies every year which includes small biopsies to large complex excision specimens.

The cytology department is one of the largest in Victoria and processes a large number of non-gynaecological as well as gynaecological specimens.

In addition to a well-managed, extensive schedule of tutorials as
a registrar you will have tremendous opportunity to learn to report various histo/cytopathology cases under supervision. You will play an important role in diagnosing and contributing to patient care.

We have two registrar positions (2 FTEs) available:

  • Position 1. Available for immediate start
  • Position 2. Available for 2024 registrar year

Essential requirements

  • A medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent) with current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Position 1: Eligible to start AP training (at least completed PGY2) or seeking return to AP training programme from leave
  • Position 2: Currently in AP training programme (preferred) or beginning your AP training journey following the Victorian Match
  • Evidence of full vaccination (2 doses plus booster) to COVID1
  • Confirmation of your current residency and right to work in Australia
  • The notice period you would require to commence employment
  • A copy of your current CV
  • AHPRA registration
  • The contact details for at least two professional referees
