About the Role


The Industry Fellow is expected to focus on enhancing the mental health clinical placement experience of undergraduate nursing students at our partner agencies.

In addition, the role will support the mental health nursing teaching, and research efforts of the undergraduate nursing program.


In this role, the Industry Fellow will be contributing significantly to mental health clinical placement preparation and coordination of undergraduate nursing students, learning and teaching activities, supervision and preceptorship capacity building and high-level industry engagement.

As the Industry Fellow, you will be expected to work collaboratively and collegially with fellow academics and senior clinicians within the teaching/education team and develop key relationships with partner organisations.

You will provide onsite support to undergraduate nursing students on mental health placement at our partner agencies.

You will also contribute to planning for clinical placements and liaising with mental health industry partners and the RMIT Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Team.


The Industry Fellow is required to anticipate, report, and provide timely advice regarding issues with student mental health placement and participate in planning and maintaining key relationships with the industry partners of RMIT.

About You

To be successful for the appointment, you will have:

  • Experience with undergraduate nursing mental health clinical education and best practice in preparation, orientation and support for clinical experience.
  • The capacity to work effectively with and negotiate sensitively with students, especially on issues related to effective learning whilst on clinical placement.
  • An ability to build effective networks with colleagues and external agencies and experience in sourcing and supporting mental health clinical placements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills appropriate for interacting with students, staff and industry, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Professional practice in mental health nursing within the previous five years and experience working within the higher education sector.
Mandatory Qualifications- Registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse- Evidence of a Post Graduate Qualification at minimum Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing (ideally master's level or higher in Mental Health Nursing)- Five or more years' recent clinical experience in mental health nursing (for appointment at a Level A)- Seven or more years' recent clinical experience in mental health nursing (for appointment at a Level B)About the College

This role sits within the

  • School of Health and Biomedical Sciences
in RMIT's STEM College which comprises three Academic areas (Allied Health, Applied Health, and Biomedical Sciences).


Primarily based at the RMIT Bundoora campus, we undertake teaching and research across ten disciplines: Chinese Medicine, Chiropractic, Exercise Science, Human Biosciences, Laboratory Medicine, Medical Radiations, Nursing, Osteopathy, Pharmacy and Psychology.


Many of our programs include Work Integrated Learning as an intrinsic part of student learning, both through placements in partner industries and through the University's student led Health Sciences Clinic located at Bundoora.
