The Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency (VACCA) is an Aboriginal Community-Controlled organisation that supports and advocates for the Aboriginal Community and is the largest organisation of it's kind in Australia.

About the role


The AOD outreach Worker provides direct service activities, some assessment, case support, some crisis intervention and ongoing support to minimise the harm of alcohol and drug use.


Through the development of stronger community networks, the AoD outreach worker will support clients at risk of alcohol and drug use through a mentoring role that offers an appropriate cultural response.

The age range is broad supporting clients from years.


The AOD outreach worker is required to work independently across a range of life areas with support from the team and team leader.


About You

  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the values that underpin VACCA's vision and purpose.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing AOD support and collaborative care to clients and their families (if appropriate/safe) using brief intervention, care planning, harm reduction, trauma informed frameworks.
  • Sound understanding of the nature of complex trauma and historical effects on the Aboriginal Community
  • Demonstrated experience in providing referral and links to a range of services including drug and alcohol, primary health, family, housing, legal, justice, employment/educational and recreational services.

Requirement: Current COVID-19 vaccination (Including booster dose, as applicable), a Working with Children's Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a valid Victorian Drivers License

Qualifications

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or other related qualifications, and/or demonstrated experience in working with Aboriginal people
