Mental Health Clinician (Gr2) - Infant Mental Health:

About the Role:


This is a fixed-term/part-time position to cover extended personal leave of 7 months, at 0.8 EFT/60.8 hrs per fortnight, within the Infant Mental Health team.


You will be responsible for providing high quality tertiary mental health care for infants and pre-schoolers who are inpatients of medical and surgical wards, and those with severe chronic illness requiring frequent hospital admissions.

The role provides specialist clinical care for patients with medical problems and associated infant mental health/psychiatric comorbidities, and involves specialist Infant Mental Health assessment, case planning and treatment.

The role is multidisciplinary and classification for the position will depend on discipline and experience:
Grade 2 Occupational Therapist (YB20-YB23)
Grade 2 Psychologist (PK1-PK4)
Grade 2 Social Worker (YC42-YC45)
Grade 2 Speech Pathologist (YB47-YB50)
Grade 3 Registered Psychiatric Nurse (NP81-NP74)

What you'll achieve:

  • Deliver excellent evidencebased practice infant mental health assessments and interventions for hospital inpatients, and consult to medical units, wards, and outpatient teams.
  • Provide child centred, family focused care through partnership with parents/families.
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Your skills and experience:

  • Entry to practice tertiary qualification in relevant discipline.
  • Post qualifying clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to work and contribute as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated/embedded clinical practice and experience beyond entrylevel.

About the Department:

RCH Mental Health comprises community
- and hospital-based services. This includes three multidisciplinary outpatient teams which are based in Travancore, Sunshine and Hoppers Crossing. RCH Mental Health teams are led by a partnership between Team Coordinator and Consultant Psychiatrist, with the Team Coordinator responsible for the operational functioning of the team, and the Consultant Psychiatrist accountable for driving high quality clinical care across the Team.

The Infant Mental Health program works closely with the Hospital Consultation-Liaison Team and is based at Parkville.
